Abalimi is an urban agriculture (UA) and environmental action (EA) association operating in the socio-economically neglected
townships of Khayelitsha, Nyanga and surrounding areas on the Cape Flats near Cape Town, South Africa.

Abalimi means: "the Planters" in Xhosa, the predominant language among our target community. We assist individuals, groups
and community based organisations to initiate and maintain permanent organic food growing and nature conservation projects
as the basis for sustainable lifestyles, self-help job creation, poverty alleviation and environmental renewal.

Each bag of seeds are carefully grown and distributed to the community which needs them most, under the supervision of Abalimi.

The produce, when grown, are then given to the community, local schools and also through the packaging department sold
to more established schools throughout Cape Town. This way the profits are then returned to the local community and invested
to further develop new gardens in areas of need.
